Waterloo is a municipality in the province of Wallonia-Brabant with a population of 30,375 in 2020 and an area of 21.03 square kilometres. It is located to the northeast of the larger city of Braine-l'Alleud. It is the site of the famous Battle of Waterloo, where Napoleon, resurrected in 1815, was defeated for the last time. Waterloo is located a short distance south of Brussels. Historically Flemish, Waterloo is now a French-speaking town on the regional and linguistic border between Flemish Brabant and Wallon Brabant.

Waterloo is home to MasterCard's European headquarters. In Mont-Saint-Jean there is a Carrefour hypermarket, a Delhaize store, an Ibis hotel, several BNP Paribas Fortis branches, the largest Maison du Monde in Belgium, and other office parks to the east of town. A row of shops, called Petit Paris, are situated on the Chaussée de Bruxelles/Brusselse Steenweg (the road becomes Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg when leaving Waterloo to the north and approaching Brussels).
