Brétigny-sur-Orge is a French commune located twenty-five kilometres south of the center of Paris. The town is located on the left bank of the Seine in the north of the department of Essonne in the Ile-de-France region, and is part of the Cœur d'Essonne conurbation community. The town is only thirteen kilometres south-west of Paris-Orly airport and forty-four kilometres from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

The Brétigny train station is located in the center of the district, and is also connected to a bus service. In 1938 a military aeronautical base was established, which later opened the Flight Test center (CEV), which was again closed in 2009. In terms of shops, mass retailing is widely present with the Aushopping Brétigny shopping center in the south owned by Ceetrus and the national logistics center for the sports equipment brand Décathlon.
